The history of RMAX and Rigid Cellular Plastics dates back to 1949 when Olympic General Products was formed to extend the manufacturing base of Olympic Tyre and Rubber Company, which was founded by Australian Olympian Sir Frank Beaurepaire in 1933.
Initially the company produced rubber and vinyl flooring, conveyor belts and nylon tubing. In 1957 the company commenced production of Rigid Cellular Plastics through the manufacture of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS).
In 1980, following the merger of Olympic with Dunlop Rubber Company, Olympic General Products in 1983 adopted the trading name “RMAX”.
In 1996 RMAX was purchased by Huntsman Chemical Company Australia Pty Limited, a joint venture between Huntsman Chemical Company Corporation of the United States of America and Consolidated Press Holdings of Australia. Huntsman, with over US$8 billion turnover per annum and with operations in 40 countries worldwide, provides RMAX access to a global resource base.
With its access to global resources and with its network of manufacturing and sales operations around Australia and New Zealand, RMAX is well placed to continue to lead Australian industry in the development and application of Rigid Cellular Plastics.
