Does ThermaStar™ provide a six star energy rating?

ThermaStar™ can assist building professionals meet the six star energy ratings, by providing superior R values for insulation. It should be installed as part of a six star energy plan.

Is ThermaStar™ industry compliant?

Yes. ThermaStar™ meets all industry compliance regulations – AS/NZS 4859, AS/NZS 3837 – BCA Group 1 – flame spread characteristics and meets the BCA 2010 section J energy ratings.

What thermal rating can I expect?

Thermal ratings depend on the specific application, examples are included in the web pages and brochures. For other specific applications consult you nearest RMAX sales office using our toll free number 1300 888 972.

What is the fire rating of ThermaStar™?

ThermaStar™ contains a fire retardant to reduce the likelihood of fire. This enables the EPS to self extinguish in small fires.

Who stocks the product, can I purchase direct from RMAX?

Yes you can buy direct from RMAX, please consult you nearest RMAX sales office using our toll free number 1300 888 972.

How effective is ThermaStar™ as a thermal insulation material?

Extremely effective – ThermaStar™ combines the excellent insulation performance of expandable polystyrene with the heat reflective capabilities of aluminium foil. Exact performance depends on the specific application.

Does ThermaStar™ absorb water?

ThermaStar™ is a closed cell and cannot absorb water. During the process of moulding a block, tiny channels are formed between the EPS particles. If the material is immersed in water these tiny channels can be filled with water. After immersion for more than 360 days, there may be up to 6% water content by volume, which has entered the channels.

Even under such an adverse and rare condition of prolonged saturation, EPS suffers little adverse effect. It maintains its shape, size, structure, cohesion and physical appearance.

Does age affect the thermal performance of ThermaStar™?

No. ThermaStar™ consists of air, polystyrene and aluminium foil, and nothing else. Because of the cellular structure of the Expandable Polystyrene in ThermaStar™ it is dimensionally stable, and will not settle over time. ThermaStar™ used and installed correctly does not deteriorate with age and as such is able to deliver constant R values for the life of the building.

Is ThermaStar™ durable?

Yes. Because the EPS and aluminium foil in ThermaStar™ are essentially inert materials they will not rot and are highly resistant to mildew. ThermaStar™ also provides no nutritional value to ants, termites, or rodents.

Provided ThermaStar™ does not suffer mechanical damage or failure of any fittings that may be used, it should have a life equal to that of the building in which it is installed.

Does ThermaStar™ burn?

Because the Expanded Polstyrene in ThermaStar™ insulation boards contain a fire retardant additive, they do not present an undue fire hazard when correctly installed. Like many construction materials, ThermaStar™ meets the requirements of Building Code of Australia (BCA) Group 1 tested using AS/NZS 3837 – heat release rates.

Does ThermaStar™ give off toxic fumes?

The level of toxicity of ThermaStar™ in a fire situation is no greater than that of timber and other commonly used building materials; the same toxic gas, carbon monoxide is produced. Also produced are carbon dioxide and soot (carbon). There is no emission of such gases as hydrogen cyanide or hydrogen chloride.

Is ThermaStar™ cost effective compared to alternative insulation?

Because of the high level of versatility of ThermaStar™ and the wide range of applications for which it is suitable, its cost effectiveness compared to alternative materials can generally be accurately assessed only on a case by case basis.

In many applications however, particularly where an element of structural strength is required, ThermaStar™ is the most cost effective insulation material available.

EPS can be applied to all areas of building constructions – ceilings, roofs, walls, floors and under slab – to provide superior standards of thermal insulation. EPS does this practically, economically and efficiently. That’s why EPS is the ultimate insulation.
